Metallica, ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ – Official Music Video
Part of the first disc of Garage Inc., "Whiskey in the Jar" became an immediate favorite among fans. Covering the traditional Irish song, Metallica put their hard rock spin on the tune, and on March 16, 1999—appropriately, the day before St. Patrick's Day—they put their hard rock spin on the music video, too. Check it out below.

Directed by Jonas Akerlund—the director Metallica worked with on their previous music video for "Turn the Page"—"Whiskey in the Jar" is set at a house party where Metallica perform the song. As the song builds up to the ending, the band destroys everything around them, including their musical instruments.
The same year the music video was released, "Whiskey in the Jar" peaked at the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The song also won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2000.
The song was released as a single from Garage Inc. on Feb. 1, 1999. It was released in many different variations, but the first included two live tracks: "Blitzkrieg" and "The Prince," both performed at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Nov. 24, 1998.
Though "Whiskey in the Jar" is no doubt a fan favorite, it's only been performed live 79 times. The first time Metallica pulled it out onstage was on Nov. 17, 1998, in Toronto, and the last time they played it was Nov. 27, 2021, at their Triller Fight Club show in Arlington, Texas.
