Thirty-two times.

That's how many times Metallica have played "Dirty Window" live in concert.

The first performance was on Dec. 3, 2003 in Oslow, Norway, about six months after St. Anger was released. They played it several times before the year wrapped up and it kept popping up in Metallica's setlists throughout 2004, too. It sat dormant for seven years until they decided to pull it out at The Fillmore in San Francisco on Dec. 10, 2011, for one of their 30th anniversary shows. And then it wouldn't be touched for a decade until another anniversary celebration.

That's right: The 32nd time St. Anger's "Dirty Window" was played live came on Dec. 19, 2021, at Metallica's second 40th anniversary show at San Francisco's Chase Center. And as you can see in the video below, the 18,000 fans in attendance were ready to hear it in all of its intense, dynamic glory.

In recognition of their 40th anniversary as a band, Metallica put together two massive concerts at the Chase Center, the first on Dec. 17, 2021, and the second two nights later. Each night found Metallica playing tracks from every single one of their albums; the first night, they pulled out "Frantic" from St. Anger and night two brought with it "Dirty Window."

Though St. Anger may catch a lot of flack for its production and the "tell all" documentary, Some Kind of Monster, there is no denying the sheer power of the record—and that power is perfectly captured in "Dirty Window."
