Watch: Metallica Rip Through Boston Calling With ‘Whiplash’
It was nearing 9 o'clock on Sunday, May 29, when AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)" started playing over the speakers at Boston Calling, which meant one thing: The rock show was about to begin.
Thousands of fans sang along with Bon Scott and then cheered along with the following Metallica show staple, Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold" from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Wen that epic composition wrapped up, there was an urgency in the air as the Boston Calling crowd waited for Metallica to kick off the night.
All of a sudden, a distinct drumbeat started playing through the speakers and many fans instantly recognized what that meant. Metallica were going to open Boston Calling with the thrashy Kill 'Em All track, "Whiplash."
You can watch Metallica's performance of "Whiplash" at the Harvard Athletic Complex in the video below.
