Kirk Hammett is renowned for his utilization of wah-wah pedals, so much so that he has his own signature Dunlop wah pedal called "The Crybaby." Mrs. Smith, the guitarist persona of David Hanbury, has challenged Hammett to a wah-off, which is now actually happening.

"I'm the number-one wah-wah abuser," Mrs. Smith previously said in an interview with guitar expert Mark Agnesi. "I abuse the wah more than Kirk Hammett and I've challenged him multiple times to a wah-off. Why are you hiding behind your wah-wah pedal, Kirk Hammett?"

Hammett, in turn, has accepted the challenge. The event, dubbed "The Crybaby Battle Royale," will occur March 8 at the Senate in Columbia, S.C. when the guitarist plays with Robert Trujillo and The Wedding Band.

"Who would dare challenge the status of [Kirk Hammett] as King of the Crybaby Wah Pedal?" Metallica wrote in a post on Instagram. "Last year, the gauntlet was thrown down by a most unlikely challenger... Mrs. Smith! New York City-based philanthropist, emerging guitar goddess, and lover of all cats (as well as some people), [Mrs. Smith] has dared to proclaim that she is, in fact, the #1 Abuser of the Wah."
