Metallica to Play ‘The Night Before’ Super Bowl 50 Concert With Cage the Elephant
The dominos are falling into place. Super Bowl 50 will take place in the Bay Area this year and hometown favorites Metallica will take part in a concert event for CBS Radio dubbed “The Night Before,” which is set for Saturday, Feb. 6 at AT&T Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants.
Frontman James Hetfield made the official announcement on Kevin Klein’s KITS Live 105 morning show earlier today. In a statement, drummer Lars Ulrich also added, “How cool is this? Super Bowl madness, AT&T Park and Metallica all coming together in one over-the-top hometown gig. We are of course beyond psyched and extremely honored to be flying the flag for not only Bay Area music, but for heavy music in general at CBS Radio’s ‘The Night Before’ 2016 edition. Get your dancing shoes ready, ’cause this is going to be one next-level, uniquely crazy event!” Metallica have been working on a new album of late, but there is no word if any new music will be included in the performance.
In addition to Metallica, Cage the Elephant have been confirmed to kick off the third annual event with a set of their top songs. Cage the Elephant are set to release their latest album, Tell Me I’m Pretty, on Dec. 18 via RCA Records.
Past CBS Radio “The Night Before” events have features Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Florida Georgia Line.
While Metallica will not be playing the halftime show at Super Bowl 50, you can expect the band’s presence to be felt during Super Bowl weekend when they headline “The Night Before” bash.
Metallica fans will have first access to ticketing via the band’s fan club. Citi card members can also purchase pre-sale tickets beginning Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 10AM PT via Citi Private Pass. General ticket sales begin this Friday (Nov. 6) at 10AM PT through Ticketmaster.
