Making its debut on Nov. 4, 1997, the music video for the first single from 1997's 'ReLoad' features Metallica front-and-center in an intensely dreamlike setting. 'The Memory Remains' was directed by Paul Andersen and reportedly cost $400,000 to film.

Metallica perform 'The Memory Remains' on a spinning swing, creating a surreal experience for the viewer. While the band is the main focus of the video, there is a special guest who is a memorable part of the song. Marianne Faithfull, the woman behind the haunting background vocals of the song, appears in the video turning the crank of a street organ.

'The Memory Remains' hit No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 3 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The song made an appearance in the 12th episode of the second season of HBO's 'The Sopranos.'
