Metallica fans started a riot today (Oct. 28) in Gurgaon, India, as crowd control issues prevented the band from playing their first ever show in India. Approximately 20,000 eager fans were waiting in the audience as a surge of metalheads jolted forward creating a domino effect, which caused crowd-control barricades to collapse, injuring several people.

Some Indian Metallica fans have waited 30 years for a chance to see the band live. In April of this year, the official announcement was made that in late October, thrash titans Metallica would finally make their way to India for the first time in their career. “That should be interesting, playing a place we never thought in our wildest dreams we’d [go] to play,” bassist Rob Trujillo told Rolling Stone India. “It’s an honor for all of us that we get to be a part of that whole music scene as a metal band sharing our music with fans in India at this incredible concert!”

Unfortunately, after several barricades were broken by the rowdy fans, concert organizers announced that the show would be postponed until 4PM the following day. The organizers originally blamed “serious technical difficulties” and Metallica themselves for the postponement, stating that the band was dissatisfied with the quality of the sound equipment. reports that the announcement triggered a violent response from the crowd, with several attendees storming the stage, setting fire to banners and damaging LED screens, monitors and other equipment.

Update: The Metallica concert has been canceled outright and will not be rescheduled for Saturday.
