Metallica and Dave Grohl will salute U.S. Veterans and their families at ‘The Concert for Valor,‘ which will take place in Washington, D.C., on Veterans Day (Tuesday, Nov. 11). The two acts join an eclectic group of artists at the event including Emienm, Jamie Foxx. Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band. It will also feature special appearances by Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, among others.

The Concert for Valor will take place at the National Mall between the Capitol and the Washington Monument and will air live on HBO on Veterans Day (Nov. 11) at 7 PM ET.  The channel will offer its affiliates the opportunity to broadcast the show, allowing nonsubscribers a chance to watch the live special.

The Starbucks and HBO event serves as a fundraiser supporting a number of veteran’s service organizations assisting servicemen and women with employment, education opportunities, health and wellness and integration back into civilian life.

Metallica released the following statement on their website: “We are honored to be asked to participate in a very special first-of-its-kind concert saluting U.S. veterans and their families on the National Mall in Washington D.C. this Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2014 … We’re excited to play for those who have given so much of themselves for others as the night shines the spotlight on the more than 20 million American veterans who have served.”

Metallica recently announced a box set featuring 27 live concerts, the Blu-Ray release of the 2004 documentary ‘Some Kind of Monster’ and a headlining performance at Rock In Rio USA in Las Vegas next May. The band is also working on new music for their first new album since 2008’s ‘Death Magnetic.’

Meanwhile, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters will release ‘Sonic Hightways: The Album,’ on Nov. 10. You can pre-order the effort here. The group’s HBO companion show ‘Sonic Highways’ debuts Oct. 17 at 11 PM ET/PT.

As mentioned, The Concert for Valor will air live on Nov. 11 at 7 PM ET on HBO.
